ADOPTION PROCESS

Step 1: Adoption Application

  • Fill out an application: If you are interested in a specific animal, make sure to include their name. If you are looking for help identifying a match, the completion of the application starts the process.

  • Background Verifications: Our first step to approval is completing vet record checks and home ownership/landlord checks. Requirements are:

    • Vet record checks: All current pets must be spayed/neutered and up-to-date on vaccinations. We also verify that pets in your care (current or past) received regular veterinary care.

    • Home/landlord checks: We complete checks to ensure pets are allowed to live at the residence and ask about any breed, weight, or other restrictions from the landlord or city.

Step 2: Meet and Greet

Once an application is approved, our manager will be in touch to discuss next steps, including a meet and greet. At this time, our manager can answer any questions you have about the dog/cat and our process. We require a meet and greet with all dogs to ensure we are finding the best fit for everyone. We also prefer to have all human companions involved as well.

Step 3: Furever Family!

After a successful meet and greet, you will be able to take your new best friend home! All animals are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated prior to adoption. If the animal is too young for spay/neuter, adopters will be required to sign a contract committing to spay/neuter the animal. (We cover this cost if you use our veterinarian.)

Note: AHAR retains the right to refuse any adoption for any reason.
